Panel 3
Title: Status on the performance assessment of bridge structures across Europe
Date: Monday, 25th March 2019 – 13:30 – 15:00
Abstract: For bridges and engineering structures, there are performance indicators established for their components and whole systems. Indicators can be qualitative or quantitative based, and can be obtained during principal inspections, through visual examination, non-destructive testing, semi-destructive testing or temporary or permanent monitoring system, analyses techniques, etc.. Hence, the main objective of this session is to discuss the most recent knowledge on performance assessment procedures. This session will then focus on: (i) performance assessment procedures; (ii) assessment before and after an intervention; (iii) assessment before and after an hazard; (iv) performance indicators; (v) may we use thresholds for decision making?; (vi) from performance indicators to KPIs; and (vii) using models to forecast performance. Also focusing on new approaches to quantify and assess the bridge performance, as well as quality specifications to assure an expected performance level, in order to improve bridge management strategies, and financing asset management of ageing structures in Europe.
